We Are One: Stronger Together, Growing with Purpose
Elevating Home-Based Child Care Educators, Strengthening Families, and Building Communities
Welcome to Our Village!
There is an African proverb that reminds us, "It takes a village to raise a child." But what happens when we recognize that it also takes a village to support the educators who care for those children?
Welcome to the NAFCC Affiliate blog, a space where passion meets purpose, voices become powerful, and home-based child care educators are celebrated for the extraordinary contributions they make to children, families, and communities every day.
Our Affiliate is more than an organization. We are a movement built on unity, collaboration, professional excellence, advocacy, and the belief that every home-based child care educator deserves to be seen, heard, valued, and supported.
Through our We Are One partnership, the NAFCC Affiliate, Family Child Care Advisory Council, and Quality Influential Professionals (QIP) are working collectively to strengthen the home-based child care profession and create meaningful opportunities for educators and the families they serve.
Together, we are building a village where no educator has to walk alone.
Our Foundation: We Are One
The strength of our Affiliate is rooted in collaboration.
We recognize that while each organization brings its own unique strengths, experiences, and expertise, our collective impact is greater when we work together.
Our partnership is grounded in shared commitments:
Advocacy and Representation: Ensuring that home-based child care educators have a voice in decisions and policies affecting their businesses, profession, and families.
Professional Growth: Connecting educators with training, mentoring, accreditation resources, and leadership development opportunities.
Business Sustainability: Supporting educators in developing strong business practices that promote financial stability and long-term success.
Educator Wellness: Recognizing that educators cannot continuously pour into others without opportunities to restore and replenish themselves.
Community Engagement: Strengthening relationships among educators, families, community organizations, and decision-makers.
Our message is simple but powerful: We Are One — united in purpose, strengthened through collaboration, and committed to excellence.
Beyond Child Care: Recognizing the Educator Behind the Business
Home-based child care educators wear many hats.
They are teachers, business owners, caregivers, administrators, advocates, mentors, and trusted partners to families.
They create safe, nurturing environments where children experience their earliest opportunities to learn, explore, develop relationships, and build the foundation for lifelong success.
Yet, their work is often overlooked or undervalued.
We believe it is time to change that narrative.
Home-based child care is not simply a convenient alternative to center-based programs. It is a vital part of the early childhood education system, providing relationship-based, culturally responsive care that meets the diverse needs of children and families.
Our Affiliate is committed to ensuring that educators receive the professional recognition, resources, respect, and opportunities they deserve.
We are not just caring for children. We are educating future generations, supporting working families, and strengthening communities.
Advocacy in Action: Our Voices Matter
Advocacy is not just something we talk about. It is something we do.
Through collective engagement, community conversations, meetings with policymakers, and opportunities to share lived experiences, our network continues to elevate the voices of home-based child care educators.
We understand that decisions made in legislative offices and policy meetings directly affect what happens inside our child care homes.
That is why educator participation matters.
Whether discussing child care funding, subsidy systems, workforce compensation, regulations, professional recognition, or access to resources, we believe that those closest to the work must have a seat at the table.
Our advocacy efforts remind us that meaningful change begins when educators recognize the power of their collective voices.
When one educator speaks, a concern is heard.
When educators speak together, a movement begins.
Supporting the Whole Educator: Wellness Matters
One of our most important commitments is supporting the well-being of the educators who dedicate so much of themselves to others.
Home-based child care educators often spend long hours meeting the needs of children and families while managing the responsibilities of operating a small business.
The emotional, physical, and financial demands can be overwhelming.
We believe wellness should never be an afterthought.
Through networking opportunities, social gatherings, meaningful conversations, and intentional spaces for connection, our Affiliate promotes a culture where educators can laugh, learn, reflect, recharge, and support one another.
Because sustainability is not only about keeping a business open. It is also about ensuring that the person behind the business is healthy, encouraged, supported, and empowered.
A thriving educator creates opportunities for thriving children, families, and communities.
Building Connections and Creating Opportunities
Throughout our work, we continue to create opportunities for educators to connect beyond traditional professional development.
Our community-building efforts include:
Monthly meetings that encourage information sharing, networking, and collaboration.
Professional learning opportunities focused on quality, accreditation, business practices, and leadership.
Advocacy initiatives that connect educators with policymakers and community leaders.
Social and wellness experiences that strengthen relationships and reduce isolation.
Family and community engagement activities that celebrate the importance of home-based child care.
Collaborative conversations about business sustainability, financial planning, and long-term success.
Events such as Rooted in Real Estate, community gatherings, and our Spectacular Saturday celebration reflect our belief that professional growth and personal connection belong together.
These experiences create opportunities for educators to learn from one another, develop new relationships, explore possibilities, and recognize that they are part of something much bigger than their individual programs.
Strengthening Families and Communities
Our commitment does not end with educators.
We recognize that children thrive when their families have access to stable, supportive, and responsive care.
Home-based child care educators often serve as trusted community anchors, supporting families through challenges, transitions, celebrations, and milestones.
By strengthening educators, we strengthen the network of support surrounding children and families.
We are committed to building partnerships that promote access to resources, family engagement, community wellness, and opportunities for every child to thrive.
We also recognize the important role of Family, Friend, and Neighbor (FFN) caregivers and the need to create meaningful connections that support safe, healthy, and nurturing environments for children in all home-based care settings.
Our vision is one in which educators, families, and community partners work together to build stronger, more resilient neighborhoods.
Looking Ahead: Growing Our Impact
As we continue moving forward, our Affiliate remains focused on building a stronger, more connected, and more influential home-based child care community.
Our priorities include expanding educator engagement, strengthening leadership opportunities, supporting professional quality and accreditation, promoting wellness and sustainability, and ensuring that educator voices influence the policies and systems that affect their work.
We want every educator to understand that their experience matters, their voice carries value, and their leadership can help shape the future of early childhood education.
We also recognize that our success will not be measured simply by the number of meetings held or events hosted.
Our success will be reflected in the educators who feel supported, the businesses that remain sustainable, the families who experience stability, and the children who benefit from high-quality early learning environments.
Your Voice. Your Village. Your Affiliate.
This blog is not just about sharing information. It is about building relationships and creating conversations.
We want this to be a space where educators can share their experiences, celebrate achievements, explore challenges, discover resources, and inspire one another.
Whether you are a seasoned educator, a new family child care business owner, an FFN caregiver, a community partner, or someone who believes in the importance of early childhood education, there is a place for you in our village.
We invite you to stay connected, attend our gatherings, participate in conversations, share your ideas, and become an active part of the work.
Because when we support one another, we strengthen our profession.
When we advocate together, we amplify our voices.
When we prioritize wellness, we build sustainability.
And when we unite around a shared vision, we create lasting change.
Together, We Are One!
One Voice. One Vision. One Village.
United in Advocacy. Rooted in Quality. Committed to Wellness. Growing Together.
